A RECORD 7.1 MILLION PEOPLE VISITED IBIZA THIS YEAR

isle

Official figures have been revealed for this year’s attendance to Ibiza.

According to reports pulled from Diario De Ibiza, exactly 7,109,115 visitors were present in Ibiza in 2016, a 14.6 per cent spike from last year’s demographics. Year after year, the island’s tourism proves to bring a steady flow of economic gain and nourishes it’s rich music culture, yet it seems the future of Ibiza’s music scene is ever changing.

In 2016, super-clubs like Amnesia, Pacha and Ushuaia were raided by authorities, the globally renowned DC-10 was punished for noise level complaints at this year’s closing party and the city’s council announced efforts to ban future open-air venues. The iconic Space Ibiza also closed.

Seems that dance music fans and tourists seeking sunshine are still very much into the idea of an Ibiza holiday though!

PACHA GROUP HAS BEEN SOLD FOR €350 MILLION

Founder Ricardo Urgell plans to work on new hotels and a project in Cuba

pacha-urgell

In mid-September, news emerged about Pacha Group’s decision to put the famed chain – including Pacha Destino Ibiza, Lio and other international expansions – up for sale. Founder Ricardo Urgell exclaimed that he could no longer stomach the owners of Ushuaïa, who are set to take ownership of the now former Space Ibiza location in 2017.

In just a matter of weeks, Pacha Group has sold for €350 million.

The details remain sparse about the purchaser and confirmation of the deal’s finalization, but Ricardo Urgell seemed ready to say his final goodbyes in a recent interview with Diario de Ibiza. “It hurts a lot to sell Pacha in such a sweet moment,” he said.

“I feel like an honest person trying to do the best possible,” Urgell said of his Pacha legacy on the island of Ibiza. “We have to want more for the island, invest in it, appreciate it and love her, so that we’re not only benefitting ourselves. People need to promote projects to improve Ibiza. It’s important that the island does not lose the magic.”

When asked further about his opinion on the island’s future, Urgell responded: “The island has spoiled areas that will be difficult to recover. If we continue at this pace, it will eventually move to the north of the island. Music should be controlled [in its legal space]. We cannot have music everywhere.” He continued, explaining his distaste for party boats in effort to preserve the island’s natural elements as well.

When asked about the recent raids of Ibiza venues like Amnesia, Ushuaïa and Pacha, Urgell confirmed that Pacha’s finances were all in order and accounts were all transparent.

Finally, though Urgell plans to part ways with his Pacha Group empire, he concluded that he has many ongoing projects, including other hotels and a possible new venture in Cuba.

Carl Cox closes Space in Ibiza for the final time in pictures

_91519394_img_3292_main_room_dancer_gv_e

Space in Ibiza has closed its doors for the final time after 27 years.

The club opened in 1989 and was known for its legendary terrace, Carl Cox’s mind-blowing sets and 22 hour dance marathons on a Sunday.

The Space Closing Fiesta was the final event at the venue as its lease has not been renewed.

“Space is synonymous with Ibiza,” one clubber said as the final tunes were played at the weekend.

“Being with all of you has meant everything!!” organisers told fans on the big screen.

Photographer James Mo captured Space’s final moments for Newsbeat.

DJ Awards 2016 takes place at Pacha Ibiza

embedded-1475605013

Here in Ibiza we’re emerging from what can only be described as one outrageously epic weekend (Music On closing, Ushuaïa closing, Space closing, ‘nuff said), and the action continued apace on Monday night as the prestigious DJ Awards were held at Pacha, during which the industry’s top players were rewarded for their services to the scene.

DJs descended in their droves on the Ibiza Town venue to find out if they’d been crowned the winner of their category and had been given the go ahead to take home one of the distinctive green kryptonite awards. Sixteen of them in total were up for grabs, 12 of which were voted for by you, the discerning public, and it turns out you all used your vote wisely.

The biggest cheer of the night perhaps inevitably, went to Carl Cox, who was crowned King (yet again) as the best Techno and International DJ. Black Coffee went home with the Deep House crown, Armin van Buuren was named best Trance DJ, Jamie XX won the Electronicaaward and the Martinez Brothers stomped to victory in the Tech House category. WooMoon went home with the best new Ibiza Night title.

This year, there was also the new introduction of the Iconic Club Award, which rightfully was presented to the one and only Space. The club’s owner, Pepe Roselló was there to pick up his trophy, doling out some characteristic pearls of kindhearted wisdom and words of thanks in the process. What a way to see out the season.

Space Ibiza: 27 Years of Clubbing History 50-MINUTE DOCUMENTARY

spaceibiza-news

Space Ibiza is the most awarded club in the history, a party icon. It revolutionized the clubbing scene creating the first after-hour in the World. Nowadays, Space Ibiza has 5 rooms, 3 of them are partially outdoor: Sunset Terrace, Premier Etage and El Salón. Main Room and the legendary Terrace complete the structure of this famous club, known by its fantastic atmosphere and big productions. The gargantuan Opening and Closing parties also feature a special outdoor stage.

Space Ibiza closing party tickets on sale

Right then gang, you might want to sit down before reading this because excitement levels are likely to soar through the ceiling. The following announcement confirms the most long-awaited news of the summer – SPACE CLOSING PARTY TICKETS ARE OFFICIALLY ON SALE!

That’s right raving monsters, you can now get your hands on tickets for the final ever fiesta at the legendary Space Ibiza. Not only is this a party that will go down as the biggest and most extravagant of the season, it will also go down in history – probably as one of the biggest parties of all time. To repeat, of ALL TIME. It’s the last time you’ll be able to dance within the Space’s hallowed walls; the last time you’ll ever see Carl Cox on the club’s dance floors; the last time you’ll ever be able to tango on the terrace. It’s the last time we’ll all be able to join together in praise of one of the best clubs the world’s ever seen.

Here’s the nitty gritty: the first release of tickets will cost 99€ and will include two free drinks (you’ll be given two drinks tickets on arrival). Each person can buy a maximum of six tickets each and the ticket owner must enter at the same time as the rest of the party, and show ID to prove they’re over 18 on the door. And, here’s an important point – tickets gain you entry to the club between the hours of 4.30 and 9 PM – after that, entry isn’t guaranteed, although you should all be there as soon as doors open to soak up as much of the car park atmosphere as possible anyway.

This is the first wave of tickets so we’d recommend you act quickly to grab your spot, but if you miss out this time, don’t panic – there’ll be more tickets to follow later in the season, on our website as well as on Space’s. Join our forums to get the latest info on when the next round of tickets will be available.

So that’s it – the rundown on how to secure tickets for the most anticipated party of the century. Come join us as we dance through a haze of nostalgic tears and make more Space memories to last a lifetime. We owe it this one.

In 2011 Ray Foxx stamped his name into the world with his 8 track Mixtape, containing the huge track ‘The Trumpeter’ which was heavily supported by Annie Mac, Zane Lowe, DJ Target and Trevor Nelson to name just a few. Later that year, supplied with vocals by Lovelle the track moved into the UK dance charts as ‘La Musica’ (Defected) helping to prove that he is a cut above the rest.

Since that moment Ray has been crafting and working on developing his productions and DJ career, which has taken him around the world including massive shows in the UK, Ibiza, Bali, South Africa and all around Europe.

2013 saw ‘Boom Boom (Heartbeat)’ featuring Rachel K Collier (Strictly Rhythm/ Island), land in the UK top 20 which peaked at number 2 in the iTunes Dance Chart and stayed in the UK top 20 for 4 weeks.

Ray became a resident guest DJ on 1Xtra providing the ‘Daily Dose Mix’ for Mistajam and then got asked to present his own weekly show on Kiss FM’s digital station Kiss Fresh which then led to a permanent slot on Kiss FM.
In 2015 Ray Foxx teamed up with Rachel K Collier again on the release ‘Curious’ released on Island Records.

Ray Foxx has remixed a broad selection of artists from Hard-Fi to Wookie, Dizzee Rascal, Sigma and more.

Ben Webb AKA KORT Tropical Velvet’s founder and creative source is constantly pushing boundaries and developing as an artist, KORT has dedicated himself to a vision of quality house music with a distinctive feel. This is also the same for Tropical Velvet, which can be clearly heard in the quality & style of the releases & the kind of artists that have signed & worked on the label.

Since winning the Defected Producers competition in 2011 & signing a publishing deal with Defected Music KORT embarked upon a journey with Copyright Recordings which started with the success of “Tomorrow” and has seen several subsequent Traxsource number one’s, and top ten chart positions along the way.

Probably best known for the “No Fear EP”achieving Traxsource House chart Top 10, radio play on BBC Radio 1courtesy of B Traits, and voted best track of 2013 by classyhousemusic.com react-text: 608 , KORT went on to make 2014 a key year launching the label, Tropical Velvet with a well received vocal collaboration (KORT ft Jessica Symonds – For You). KORT continued this success with ‘Holding On’ which hit Traxsource House chart top 20, gaining radio support across the board including Dance Anthems on BBC Radio 1, Ministry of Sound radio, Top 10 in DMCWorld Buzz chart along with an editor’s interview.
