The arrival of Destino Ibiza, Pacha’s new 170-room clifftop resort, is causing a stir

Bomba, Ibiza’s new nightspot, has finally been granted its licence. It’s the last piece of the 2013 puzzle – a season that has seen the White Isle’s social landscape change like never before, with promoters, parties and key players all switching places.

The winds of change were blowing last year, when the departure of Pacha’s long-term brand manager Danny Whittle instigated a huge shake-up at the club. Pacha’s 2013 roster contrasts sharply with previous years: no fewer than five nights have been replaced, with Hamburg-based house hero Solomun’s new Sunday residency causing the most excitement.

Hot on his heels is Israeli techno wizard Guy Gerber, who is set to cause a stir with his first Ibiza residency. He’ll have competition from Hot Natured label boss Jamie Jones, whose Paradise parties at DC10, now in their second year, have moved to Wednesday nights.

Techno heads will be pleased to hear Richie Hawtin’s Enter continues apace at Space, with welcome multiple dates from super-producer Maya Jane Coles. Even more exciting is Luciano’s surprise return to Cocoon for three shows.

Daytime ravers should look no further than Ushuaïa, where Loco Dice and Pete Tong both have new parties (Used + Abused and Le Grand Bazaar respectively) and there’s a welcome return to the poolside for Sebastian Ingrosso and Axwell.

Also new is the Ushuaïa Tower development, a punchy addition to the ever-changing Playa d’en Bossa scene. Punters can expect a full-on VIP hotel experience, with a rooftop bar overlooking the action, Pan Am-style hostesses and ‘Ibiza’s first real American steakhouse’.

However, the resort causing the biggest stir is Pacha’s new Destino Ibiza, a sprawling 170-room clifftop behemoth in Cap Martinet with spa and wellness suites, multiple dining options, Cirque du Soleil-style shows and a DJ residency from Hercules + Love Affair’s first lady, Kim Ann Foxman.

The US contingent are still hot on the island’s heels, with both Nikki Beach and The Hard Rock Café opening island outposts – the latter causing a stir with its positioning on Ibiza’s historic town square.

The Hollywood effect is also visible at Pikes Hotel, where London-born actor Idris Elba hosts a series of weekly after-parties for Ibiza Rocks, and at Cap des Falco, where the much-loved sunset spot has been taken over by New York speakeasy legends The Experimental Cocktail Club.

Ibiza regulars will be sad to hear of the demise of Aura but foodies will be glad to hear it’s been replaced by Sacca, an Asian-fusion restaurant.

Back at Bomba, all eyes are on the line-up. With confirmed residencies from Erick Morillo, Luciano and Defected Records, plus a return to the fray from club visionaries Manumission, it’s set to be one heck of a season.
